Transpose will be available soon on PSVR and PC with 3dRudder support!

Transpose is a dreamlike VR puzzle game set in a surreal world where players can shift perspectives in ways that are not possible in any other medium. And this is also another VR game soon to be added to the list of games compatible with the 3dRudder foot controller!

While we’re waiting for the patch to release, we had the opportunity to interview its game studio: Secret Location! Find below an exclusive insight from the Canadian studio on how they contribute to the VR industry and why they decided to integrate the 3dRudder foot controller!

Secret Location: a company that is reshaping the VR industry

Secret Location is a content studio specialized in emerging platforms. They first began as a project based digital services company in 2008, before being acquired by global independent studio Entertainment One in 2016. The team is now reshaping the virtual reality industry by combining cutting edge technology with traditional storytelling and thus deliver powerful experiences to audiences in any environment.

Through their location-based and VR experiences, their main focus is to push the boundaries of immersive entertainment. Over the last few years, they have indeed migrated towards original content, Intellectual Property (IP), and technology, with properties like Transpose, The Great C, Blasters of the Universe, Halcyon, and Welcome to Wacken.

With Transpose, Secret Location introduced a unique project in VR

In Transpose, players are granted the power to manipulate time, enabling them to create multiple versions of themselves, and to solve increasingly complex puzzles as they explore 30+ levels. Players record and layer past “echoes” of themselves to traverse incredible paths and collaborate across time.

From the very first prototype they made, it was clear that the 1 to 1 recording and playback of actions was something very special that cannot be experienced anywhere else. Their philosophy is to lead with the idea, find and extend the story. Then, they choose the right platform, technique, or technology for the experience they want to create.

The project had a one-year production cycle and was created by a talented team of about 15 people including developers, artists, producers, game designers, and others. As the studio says: “we wanted to do something that hadn’t been done in VR before. Although time rewinding has been used as a game mechanic numerous times in “flat screen” gaming, bringing it to VR took it to a whole new level.

“The 3dRudder foot motion controller offers a more intuitive way to play Transpose”

Concerning the integration of the foot controller in Transpose, it all started when their team saw some articles in the press about the device. Then, when Florian, our Business Executive at 3dRudder, contacted them to speak about a possible integration, they. simply agreed.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity to get involved with a cool product. The 3dRudder foot motion controller offers a natural way to move around in 360 environments, as well as an alternative, more intuitive way to play Transpose. With the introduction of the foot motion controller, that frees up the hands, developers can now incorporate more complex control schemes to continue to push the limits of immersion.”

Overall, it took around a week to complete the integration, from reading the documentation, through integration and testing and submitting it to Sont Quality Assurance for approval.

“Virtual Reality will become a common household item”

Secret Location is now in production on two free roam VR projects, on top of setting up a test stage in their studio. “It’s super fun, inspiring, and also weird, to see our teammates walking around and miming in full VR gear.” Of course, they will continue to work with VR in the future.

With the release of standalone headsets, the team sees VR becoming a common household item, much like gaming consoles, and becoming more broadly adopted. They also see the content and tech allowing for further innovation and immersion. Basically: the Holodeck light!

Speaking about tech, the 3dRudder is definitely one of these amazing projects that are meant to enhance the players experiences while opening up new horizons in the VR industry. To order a 3dRudder and benefit now from new motion configurations in all the compatible games, click here!

Concerning Secret Location, we can only wish the studio a bright future and a lot of surprising, innovative projects to come. Stay tuned for more exclusive information on game development!
